Favorite Pins of the Week

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

I'm not sure if you know this or not, but I'm addicted to Pinterest. I LOVE to find new and ambitious projects to work on... and I'm doing alright so far. And by that I mean that I've done a few of them.

I love the inspiration. I kept seeing all of these beautiful crocheted things, and I kept asking myself why I didn't just buck up and learn how to crochet already. So, I found a video to teach me... via Pinterest, of course. And now I'm learning new patterns and stitches every day. In fact, I'm actually working on a pretty neat hat for myself at the moment. I'll post a picture when I'm finished (probably by tomorrow). Leave me a comment if you like it and I'll send you the pattern.

Anywho... off topic again, of course. You should join Pinterest. And follow me. And just to give you some inspiration to go and do just that, I posted five of my favorite pins this week.

I'm thinking of making this a weekly post, and I would appreciate some feedback if you agree.

I would also appreciate if you would VOTE for this blog on TopBabyBlogs.com. PLEASE!? Just click on the yellow banner at the bottom of the post, or the blue "click me" button to your left. Or, by clicking here. It would make Clara and I both very happy. :D

1. Spaghetti Squash

I'm on a Low/No Carb, no sugar diet (more on that later). This took care of my pasta fix.

2. Modern Quit
I've been wanting to start a quilt for Clara, using squares cut out of her outfits. So rather than save everything, I can just save a portion of it, and she can have it for years to come. Plus, then I don't have to hold onto everything. I had a hard time finding a pattern I liked, though. Put I LOVE this one. I think it would be fantastic!

3. Hair Tutorial
This site has all sorts of hair tutorials. See something you like? There's a step-by-step guide on teaching you how to do it. I did one, shown in this post, last week. Super easy. My hair has been short the last couple of years, and it's like I forgot what to do with long hair. These tutorials give me a refresher course, as well as new ways to be creative.

4. New Uses for Old Things
Like using Lemon Kool-Aid to clean your dishwasher. Or using dryer lint to make modeling dough. Or using a dish rack to organize crayons and coloring books. Or using a martini shaker as a glitter dispenser. Ok, I don't really agree with that last one. Use a salt shaker or something. No need to ruin a good martini shaker. But you get the point, right? Pinterest has all sorts of really easy fixes to save you money, make you more organized, and make fun project a snap to do with your kids. Check 'em out!

5. Motivation
I admit, I do not have the healthiest body image. I'm doing my best to change that. I'm sticking to my diet... I could use more of a workout, but I like motivational stuff like this to keep me on track. "Thinspo", if you will. Now, I would never let Clara see stuff like this. I'm not recommending that anyone else use this type of image either. But it helps me stay on track. Pinterest also has workouts that you can find, lifestyle changes, and funny stuff about losing weight. If you have the same motivation/inspiration style that I do, check out my inspiration board. It has pictures, words, workouts, outfits, funny stuff... everything I like to keep me motivated. Let me know what you think. Leave a comment!

Also, PLEASE vote by clicking the banner below. kthanksbye.

Weekend Happenings

Monday, October 10, 2011

I've been busy this weekend. Catching up on projects and working on my Pinterest DIYs.

Hat I made for Clara's doctor's niece.

Hat I made for newborn baby Elijah Kingsley.

I'm now taking custom orders. Email me for more information if you're interested.

I found non-toxic flat paint for $10 a gallon! I decided it was time to paint my bedroom. I painted it a dark (DARK) purple like 8 years ago. I decided on a gray this time. I'm not done decorating. I'm going for a gray/yellow/white color scheme. I'm pretty excited about it.

I also picked up a bright green paint to crackle/paint a dresser for Clara's room. It's not done yet, but soon. So stay tuned!

ALSO, I would be EXTREMELY happy if you would vote. :D

Weekly Re-cap in cell phone pics- Week 2

Sunday, October 9, 2011

Monday. Happy baby eating bananas for breakfast. They were so good, she licked her bib clean. I finally found organic baby yogurt at Meijer! Hooray! Clara finally rolled from tummy to back! (She figured out the back to tummy a few weeks ago.)

Tuesday. Week 2 of my new diet. (More on that in a future post). Baked squash and zucchini, with a grilled burger topped with goat cheese pesto, alfalfa sprouts, and spinach. yummm. My cousin's husband, Leon, playing with Clara on the floor at Small Group. They're friends. Clara's sweet smiles during playtime just before bed.

Wednesday. Apprehensive baby just before her morning nap. Not sure what to think about Mom snapping pictures when she's tired. I tried a new hair tutorial for a messy bun: the result. Looked better in person. I couldn't get a clear picture. Happy baby post-nap!

Thursday. Out and about. I kinda look pissed. I wasn't. Promise. Annnddd it's the only picture I took that day. Sorry. We were visiting Clara's dad.

Friday. Rainbow happy baby legs are adorable! Clara had a prune/raisin/baby brekkie mix for dinner because of her... umm... digestive problems. It helped the next day. Usually I wipe up her hands, mouth, and bumbo tray as she spills, but this time, I let her play with her food. *gasp*! My OCD side is still freaking out.

Friday: Things I've Found in Week 3!

Friday, October 7, 2011

Hi people. I would LOVE to know what you think of this weekly posting, a particular post, or my blog in general. I LOVE COMMENTS!!!! Keep 'em coming! In other news, Top Baby Blogs was reset again. It seems that the same 30 blogs are always at the top. It seems that the higher your ranking on TBB, the more readers you have. Or the other way around. Either way, I NEED VOTES! So please click the yellow button at the bottom of this post, or the blue "click me" button on your left. Clara and I will much appreciate it, and it will give other people the chance to discover my blog!
I apologize about the lack of post yesterday. Clara and I were visiting with her Dad before his trip to the U.P. But get excited, because the Thankful Thursday post will be pretty epic.

Awkward Pregnancy Photos
: BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! These are great, just great. I wanna do some of the same ones for fun if I have another one. What were your pregnancy pictures like? Do you have any awkward ones? Care to share?

Top Ten Daddy Blogs on the Web: Because you know you'd love to read a Dad Blogger's point of view. My favorites from this page are Lick the Fridge and Clark Kent's Lunchbox. Check 'em out for yourself, and tell me what you think.

Learn to Coupon in 30 Days: I LOVE the show "Extreme Couponing" on TLC. It's fantastic. People get hundreds, sometimes thousands, of dollars of stuff and they pay less than a hundred, sometimes nothing, for all of it! I like the idea of paying nothing, or close to nothing, for a ton of stuff. Especially being unemployed, and a stay-at-home (single) mom. What's a girl to do? Start couponing, that's what. Do you clip coupons? Do you want to?

Talking Body Image with Daughters: This is extremely important to me. I don't want Clara to ever think that she "needs" something such as make-up, surgery, or weight-loss to make her feel beautiful. I've always struggled, and still do struggle with the way I look. I really need to take steps to not project that onto Clara. Just because I have a poor body image doesn't mean that she's going to. I want to raise her to be a strong, confident individual.

Inappropriate Children's Halloween Costumes
: Not gonna lie, I was totally going to dress Clara up as a lobster in a pot. But I got a really awesome iron-on transfer from Baby Fables. So I can just iron the sticker on a onesie, and there's her Halloween costume. I think they're too much effort if the kid is less than a year old. What are you going to be for Halloween? What about your kids? Share with me!
